On Saturday 20 June, we were at KUUS at the "Help, mijn ouders worden oud!" fair at Trefpunt Heiloo in the Netherlands. A fair for residents, carers and family members who want to find out more about ageing safely and independently.

We were there with the KUUS S2, KUUS S4 and KUUS S5, three alarm watches developed for older people who want to keep living independently for longer, with extra peace of mind for family and carers.

Plenty of conversations with visitors

During the seniors' fair, we spoke with many visitors. Both with older people themselves and with children of parents who live alone. We also spoke with carers and various care organisations.

The conversations often came back to the same question:

"How do you make sure someone can stay living independently and safely, without being tied straight away to an expensive subscription or a complicated system?"

For many visitors, it was new to hear that an alarm watch can do far more than just send an SOS alert. In particular, the combination of GPS location, fall detection, water resistance and working without a subscription generated a lot of interest.

Many visitors were surprised

What struck us was that many people still think of the traditional pendant alarm button worn around the neck. That only works if someone actually wears it. In practice, that kind of button often ends up on the bedside table.

A watch feels more natural to many people. You put it on in the morning and wear it all day, including in the shower, which is exactly where many falls happen.

Visitors responded especially positively to these points:

  • SOS button directly on the watch.
  • GPS location in emergencies.
  • Fall detection on the watch.
  • Water-resistant design.
  • No monthly subscription costs.
  • A normal-looking watch instead of a conspicuous alarm pendant.

Our highlight of the seniors' fair

The highlight of the fair for us was the moment visitors saw for themselves that safety doesn't have to be complicated.

Many people arrived with the idea that an alarm system is bulky, expensive or technically difficult. After a short explanation, they saw that an alarm watch can actually be practical and easy to get started with.

The conversations with care organisations were also valuable. We noticed a growing need for smart solutions that help older people live independently, without family or care staff having to take over everything at once.

What we learned

The fair confirmed for us that the market is changing. Older people want to keep living independently for longer. Family members want peace of mind. Care organisations are looking for solutions that work practically in everyday life.

Technology can help with this, but only if it's easy to use.

That is where KUUS focuses. No complicated installation. No unnecessary monthly costs. Just an alarm watch that gets worn and helps when it's needed.

Thank you to all visitors

We look back on a valuable day in Heiloo, the Netherlands. Thank you to all the visitors, carers, care professionals and organisations who took the time to talk with us.

The seniors' fair once again showed how important it is to think ahead about ageing safely, not only once something has happened, but well before that.

With our alarm watches, we want to help older people live independently with more confidence, and help family members stay involved from a distance with greater peace of mind.
